First and Third Thursdays of the month in the church lounge, 2:00-4:00 PM. Our group is currently doing a DVD study on the Apostle Paul-his life and ministry. New participants are always welcome whether this is your first time with a group like this or you’ve done this before! Our next meetings: 1/19/17, 2/2/17, and 2/16/17. Don’t miss this unique and exciting opportunity to fellowship and learn! This is a fun and interesting group!
Pancake Meals, just prior to the beginning of Lent, have been a Christian tradition for many years. It began as part of an effort to avoid wasting those items that would not be consumed during Lent because of the spiritual discipline of fasting. This might have included items like meats, fats, eggs, milk, leaven, etc. Pancake dinners became a tradition on Shrove Tuesday, the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, as a means of using up consumables like milk, fat, and eggs. We will continue this tradition as our Christian Education Program sponsors a Pancake Breakfast on the Sunday prior to the beginning of Lent. Come join us. A free will offering will be taken to cover costs.
We are blessed to have many volunteers who step up and do so much for our congregation. It is impossible to find words that adequately express how much this means to the life of our congregation. Without these saints, there would be much that would not get done and the cost of doing the things we do would be beyond reach. Each year, we attempt to highlight one of these volunteers by recognizing them in a special way. It is our small attempt to not take the gifts our volunteers give for granted. This year we will again honor someone in our congregation on Sunday, 2/12/17. A presentation will be made during worship and a luncheon will be provided in Chilton Hall following worship. So that we know how many to plan lunch for, please add your name to the sign-up sheet on the glass cabinet in the sanctuary or by contacting the church office, firstname.lastname@example.org or 477-6030. Thanks.
THE EVENING ADULT ENRICHMENT PROGRAM WILL BEGIN A NEW STUDY IN JANUARY 2017 BASED ON THE BOOK/MOVIE BY HARPER LEE, ‘TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD’. As a kick off to this new study, there will be a viewing of the Mockingbird movie starring Gregory Peck on Sunday, January 29, 2017. It will begin at 5:00 PM with a Pot-Luck Dinner in Chilton Hall followed by the movie. (Please use sign-up sheet on glass cabinet in sanctuary lobby or contact church office (477-6030, email@example.com). The four session study discussing the ‘Faith of a Mockingbird’ will begin on February 7, 2017.
For those of you who have filled out your cards-thank you. Your commitment to our church’s ministry is much appreciated. For those of you who have not yet had a chance to fill out a card, we would be deeply grateful is you would consider doing so. It helps us to make estimates of what we can and/or cannot fund next year. Extra cards can be found on the glass cabinet in the lobby of the church’s sanctuary or by contacting the church office (477-6030, firstname.lastname@example.org). You may mail them in or deposit them in the offering plate on Sunday morning. As of December 4, 2016 we have collected 61 cards totaling a commitment to $110,444 for the General Fund and $11,137 for the Mission Fund. (In 2016 our pledge total for the General Fund was $127,188) Thank you!
